About Us

Energy Explorers Limited was set up in 2007 by its founder Director Paul Howlett, who has over 35 years of experience in oil and gas exploration around the world.

The company specialises in establishing new projects and early-stage exploration to companies in multiple sectors and locations globally.

Since foundation it has been providing high-quality geological, geophysical and commercial expertise to select independent oil and gas exploration and production companies, oil and gas service companies and financial institutions. More details can be found on the Clients and Projects page.

Paul Howlett

Founder and Director

Paul originally qualified as a Mining Geologist from Imperial College in London, but after a few years migrated from mining lead-zinc-silver ores to the oil and gas business – where he has been working in exploration for over 30 years. He started out working on UK projects, concurrently completing a Master’s Degree in Sedimentology, before moving into international projects in many different parts of the world, mainly in Africa and Europe. He was employed by independent oil companies Monument, LASMO, Hunt, Paladin and Al Thani.

In 2007 he set up the consultancy Energy Explorers, which continues to work for a number of clients – more detail can be found in the “Clients and Projects” section below. In 2009 he was a co-founder of Transunion Petroleum, which was focussed on frontier exploration in the Mediterranean and applied for acreage offshore Italy and Malta – the Italian subsidiary was later sold to partner Nautical Petroleum and the back-in option for an offshore Maltese licence was sold to Mediterranean Oil and Gas. Paul was also a key part of the subsurface team of UK North Sea focussed start-up Painted Wolf Resources.

As well as geological and exploration management services, he is now also providing agency services for companies wanting to break into new markets by using his extensive network and relationships and can also use his long and varied experience to provide board advisory services..

SolGeo

United Kingdom Agent

SolGeo is an Italian company that specialises in geophysical instrumentation and systems for monitoring structures and terrain. Its area of expertise includes applied geophysics and SolGeo develops integrated systems for many sectors including carbon capture, as well as oil and gas.

SolGeo design, manufacture, install and maintain seismic and microseismic networks and can support customers with monitoring, processing and reporting of the data. SolGeo has decades of experience in this field and has designed, installed and operated 10 microseismic networks monitoring underground gas storage reservoirs in Italy and abroad.

An additional service is The Integrated Structural Monitoring System (ISMS), which has been entirely designed and developed by Solgeo for verification of asset integrity and safety conditions of offshore structures, both fixed and floating. SolGeo has been active in this field since 2018 and has systems installed on 10 platforms in 4 countries.
